While Italy has been avidly consuming tales of the early-20th-century successes of feminism, it has also witnessed the rise of the far right, and has been governed since 2022 by a right-wing coalition led by Giorgia Meloni, a female prime minister who proudly uses the masculine term “il presidente” and is famous for her motto “I’m Giorgia, I’m a woman, I’m a mother, I’m a Christian.”
